My name is Kristen McDermott. I am an alumni of St. Josephs College and Stony Brook University, where I earned both my Bachelor's and Master’s degree in Child Study. This year will be my 20th year teaching Special Education at Walt Whitman High School.

 I am not only an experienced teacher, I am also a Holistic Mediation Coach, teaching mindfulness and meditation all over New York and New Jersey.  

I aim to help and motivate the student I work with. My goal is to see every student do their best and succeed at their goals. I love establishing an engaging and creative atmosphere where students can feel comfortable and express themselves without hesitation. I pride myself on having a compassionate and caring classroom and I hope that all students feel that energy.
