Prepare For ISEE And SSAT Exams
The ISEE (Independent School Entrance Examination) and SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) are standardized tests used for admission to private and independent schools.
All About the ISEE
The ISEE is designed for students in grades 2-12 seeking admission to independent and private schools. ISEE scores are used by schools as a part of their admission process to gauge a student's academic readiness. The exam consists of multiple levels (Primary, Lower, Middle, and Upper) to assess students at different grade levels. The test evaluates a student's verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, reading comprehension, and mathematics skills. There is also an essay portion that assesses a student's writing ability.
All About the SSAT
The SSAT is a standardized test required for admission to many independent and private schools in the United States. It is designed for students in grades 3-11, with various levels tailored to the student's grade and academic stage (Elementary, Middle, Upper). The test assesses a student's abilities in three main areas: verbal, quantitative, and reading comprehension. There is an unscored essay section known as the Writing Sample, which is sent to schools as part of the application.
Which Test Should my Child Take?
The ISEE and SSAT test are both admissions exams used by private and independent schools, but they differ in format, scoring, and which schools prefer them. Neither is objectively harder but they slightly emphasize different skills.
ISEE:
- More reasoning-based math
- More advanced quantitative thinking
- Slightly less emphasis on vocabulary
SSAT:
- Stronger emphasis on vocabulary and analogies
- More straightforward math
- Reading passages that can be more inferential
Preparing for the ISEE/SSAT
To prepare for either entrance exam, students will follow a comprehensive, curriculum designed specifically for the SSAT or ISEE. Throughout the course, students will strengthen essential skills in math, reading, writing, vocabulary, and grammar while developing problem-solving abilities and effective test-taking strategies. A diagnostic assessment at the beginning of the course identifies each student's strengths and areas for growth, while a final assessment measures progress and improvement. Practice exercises and practice tests reinforce learning throughout the program, helping students build the confidence, skills, and strategies needed to maximize their performance on test day.
